The verdict was not what the Yankees wanted.

After several days of deliberation, Aaron Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, the latest and largest blow to the reeling Yankees.

Judge had been fighting to stay active after suffering what the club is calling a right hip strain that knocked him out of Thursday’s win in Texas.

The slugger sat for three games against the Rangers — all Yankees losses — and was put on the shelf before the club dropped the series-opener, 3-2, against the Guardians in The Bronx.

“Aaron really didn’t want to,” manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees lost their fourth straight. “But [the decision was reached after] just a lot of conversation that he was very much a part of.”

Judge will be out for the duration of the Cleveland series and, more importantly, the entirety of this weekend’s three-game showdown against the first-place Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Judge, whose injured list stint is retroactive to Friday, will be eligible to return Monday against the A’s.

The trouble began Wednesday, when Judge dove into third base on a steal attempt and appeared to injure his right hand. Judge was pulled from the game but was back in the lineup a day later, when he felt the hip issue during a second-inning at-bat.

The Yankees’ captain did not want to succumb to the IL, which led to the club playing several games with a short bench.

“I didn’t want this to turn into something where he’s playing at 80 percent, 85 percent and compromising himself, and it turns into something serious,” said Boone, who added he expects Judge to spend just a short time on the IL.

The Yankees called up Franchy Cordero — who is hitting .151 and had been optioned Friday night — from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the open roster spot.

There is no replacing Judge, particularly with the way the Yankees have hit recently. In the three games the Yankees played without Judge in Texas, they scored four runs and hit .174. The Yankees managed two runs on six hits Monday.

“I think Aaron’s also being realistic, too. He understands what’s at stake, and what’s important,” Boone said before the decision was reached. “[We] want to understand where we are in the season, with whatever, 130 games to go, and obviously, how important he is. We want to make sure we’re in a good spot there.”

Judge joined Giancarlo Stanton (left hamstring strain), Harrison Bader (left oblique strain) and Josh Donaldson (right hamstring strain) as potentially significant offensive contributors unable to contribute, though Bader is nearing his return.

After the quiet end to the series loss in Texas, Boone talked to the club about not wallowing.

“We’re going through a tough stretch right now, we’re beat up, but we got to focus on the here and the now and the day and being the best we can,” Boone said Monday, recounting his message from a day earlier. “You can’t start trying to make up games. … We got to walk in those doors with an edge, ready to prepare, ready to go out and compete our asses off.”

Without Judge — who smacked a club- and league-record 62 home runs last season and who was shuffled to the IL with six homers and an .863 OPS — the climb will be more difficult.

Oswaldo Cabrera, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Willie Calhoun were Monday’s three starting outfielders, all of whom figure to see a bit more time without Judge. There is a chance Bader can be activated as soon as Tuesday.

The Yankees hope Jake Bauers, who was called up Saturday only to immediately injure his knee on a remarkable, sliding catch against Texas’ left-field wall, also will be able to help.

Monday afternoon, Bauers said the swelling “has gone down a lot.”

The Yankees will have to rely upon their depth to navigate the Judge-less days. Boone said the injury was “minor,” but any setback to the club’s offense at the moment could be major.

“Just want to make sure we do right by him, what’s best for him and for us,” Boone said.
