The Yankees have moved the start time for Monday’s game against the Marlins from 2:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m., the team announced.

First pitch for the series opener between the two teams in The Bronx had been slated to be thrown just minutes before a solar eclipse began in New York City.

News of the adjusted start time started to spread after a Miami Herald reporter posted on X that the Marlins broadcast had announced a change in time for the first pitch for Monday’s game.

The solar eclipse is expected to start in New York City around 2:10 p.m. and last roughly two hours and 26 minutes before coming to an end around 4:36 p.m., according to timeanddate.com.

The ideal viewing time for the eclipse is 3:15 p.m., according to NASA, and it is believed to be the last solar eclipse in the U.S. for the next two decades.

A solar eclipse is a celestial event where the moon passes in front of the sun, casting a shadow over a part of the earth below and rendering it dark as night for those along the direct path.

The Big Apple will not be in the direct path of the solar eclipse, but New Yorkers should still see about 90 percent of the sun blocked out by the moon during the event’s peak.

The Yankees had planned a special giveaway around Monday’s game taking place during the event.

The team plans to hand out special Yankees Solar Eclipse Day T-shirts to the first 15,000 fans that arrive at Yankee Stadium.

• The next total solar eclipse will take place on Aug. 12, 2026, and totality will be visible to those in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small slice of Portugal. 

Major League Baseball has two games that will occur on Monday in cities that are along the path of a total solar eclipse, with the Rangers hosting the Astros in Arlington, Texas, and the Guardians hosting the White Sox in Cleveland.

Neither game will be impacted by the solar eclipse, but the Guardians are opening the gates to Progressive Field at 2 p.m. so that fans can view the event from inside the ballpark.
