David Wright’s neck surgery creates a void at the hot corner and in the lineup for the Mets. Here are some avenues the Mets can explore to replace their third baseman:

Internal

Wilmer Flores: If he can produce anywhere close to his level from the first half of last season, third base is all his.

NeilWalker: He is willing to move from second base to third if team brass decides that would be the best option. Such a move would allow the Mets to promote Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas to play second.

External

Yulieski Gourriel: The Cuban star is a free agent, but could come with a significant price tag.

AaronHill: The Brewers are in rebuilding mode; would they deal with the Mets after last year’s Carlos Gomez non-trade?

DannyValencia: The 31-year-old righty hitter is having a career year for Oakland; is it real or a mirage?

Yangervis Solarte: Roger Cedeno’s nephew is having a solid year for the Padres and doesn’t become a free agent until after the 2019 season.
