Starling Marte was out of the Mets’ lineup again Wednesday as the outfielder continues to deal with symptoms seemingly related to a second migraine headache.

After Marte missed a third game in five days and Buck Showalter didn’t rule out a stint on the injured list stint prior to the Mets’ 5-1 win over the White Sox at Citi Field, the manager provided a positive update after the game.

Showalter said “so far, there’s nothing but good news,” after Marte underwent a scan, Showalter added that Marte could at least be an option to come off the bench as soon as the series finale against the White Sox on Thursday afternoon, although the quick turnaround might prove to be an obstacle.

“There’s nothing I’ve heard to think he wouldn’t be an option in the near future for us to play,’’ Showalter said.

It has been an unusual few days for Marte, who has suffered migraines before, but never two in such a short amount of time, according to Showalter.

“[The migraine] part of it has gotten a lot better and gone away,’’ Showalter said before the game. “He’s still pretty weak, he threw up a lot.”

Marte saw a specialist on Wednesday to “cross some things off,” Showalter said.

For the speedy outfielder, the migraine and subsequent stomach issues are more discouraging episodes in a season during which Marte has found sparing success, with a .640 OPS this season, well below his career number of .789.

Marte, who has stolen 24 bases under MLB’s new rules, but a slash line of just .254/.308/.332 with five home runs, collided with Jean Segura in a scary scene at third base in April and also had hernia surgery to repair a torn muscle in November.

Showalter said he knows Marte has been the target of considerable criticism this season, as the Mets have undershot expectations. They are 44-50 and sit 16 ¹/₂ games out of the division lead and seven games out of a wild-card spot.

“It’s been fashionable, I’m sure, for people to critique him, whatever, it’s part of the gig,” Showalter said. “But this guy had the whole hernia surgery, borderline concussion at third base, a lot of things physically when you steal the bases that he does and the way that he does. So we just want to make sure that he’s OK.”

Jeff McNeil was in the lineup again though he had appeared to be in discomfort during the win Tuesday over the White Sox, and finished 0-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and a run scored.

Showalter said McNeil had a slight hip issue that he has dealt with during his career and both he and the medical staff are confident he’s healthy.

“I saw the same thing early in [Tuesday’s] game and it wasn’t that the hip was locking up,” Showalter said. “He’s ready to go and everybody’s comfortable with what it is — and what it isn’t.”
