The family of late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner released this statement through the team today:

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the many kind words of condolence. We have been deeply moved by the generous outpouring of love and affection for George.”

The family will hold a private service. A public memorial will be planned, and details will be announced next week.
