The first rough patch of the Mets’ home-opener came before the game even started Friday.
The large, square patch, with red lettering on a white background, was added to the jersey sleeve as part of a sponsorship deal with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
The patch was lambasted by fans during the first hours after it was revealed.
Mets owner Steve Cohen said he and NewYork-Presbyterian’s chief executive officer Steve Corwin agreed, via email, to change the patch.
“They’re Phillies colors,” Cohen said of the red-and-white patch. “He agreed and I agreed that it should be more Met-appropriate.”
Cohen declined to share any financial details of the partnership. It is the first year that MLB is allowing jersey patches as advertising.
