Mets owner Steve Cohen created a stir by tweeting: “All I know is we are one day closer to the black jerseys.”

A club source said the tweet wasn’t indicative of a plan for the Mets to unveil those alternate black jerseys during Friday’s doubleheader. Instead, it seems that Cohen was alluding to MLB’s new All-Star Game uniforms, which players will wear this year. It’s the first time players won’t wear their own team uniforms in the All-Star Game.

Cohen’s plan is to bring back, on some basis, the alternate black jerseys the Mets first unveiled in the 1990s and stopped wearing in recent years. Last weekend he said MLB still had to approve the black jerseys.
