The Mets had no contingency plans yesterday for the rain in the forecast over the next three days. If tonight’s scheduled game against the Cubs is rained out, it would be made up Monday, if necessary. But if Friday’s or Saturday’s game against the Marlins is postponed, a doubleheader would be a possibility.
Jerry Manuel winced when the possibility of a doubleheader was broached yesterday.
“That would be very tough,” Manuel said. “It would possibly cause us to move people into positions we’re not used to being in.”
One of his concerns is potentially overextending his bullpen in a short timeframe. It could also throw a wrench in his plans for the rotation. Any delays could affect Johan Santana’s availability for the NLDS, should
the Mets qualify for the playoffs.
