Amid all the chaos of tonight's game, Juan Soto said that he hadn't noticed the Yankees fans, quite literally, turning their back on him when he took the field for the first inning.
Soto said that he was listening to the boos, but that he "tried not to have any eye contact" with the fans out in the bleachers.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone felt that tonight's series opener was a "pretty great environment."
"Certainly one of those nights where you can feel the energy in the building," he said.
Juan Soto took the whole night in stride as he spoke to reporters inside the Mets clubhouse.
He said the tip of the helmet he gave the fans during his first at-bat was a thing he “just did” and that he just tried to embrace the whole situation.
“Whatever they give you, it is what it is,” Soto said. “You gotta be a professional. You gotta take it as a man. I was just enjoying the moment.”
The Yankees took the first game of the Subway Series witha 6-1 win over the Mets and Yankees fans got to home happy, with not just the win, but also after voicing their displeasure at Juan Soto for leaving over the winter.
Soto hit a fly ball to center field for the final out of the game.
It was a moment, Yankee fan or Met fan, that everyone could enjoy here at Yankee Stadium.
The video board out in center field flashed the Knicks score -- up 46-27 at the time -- send the crowd into a frenzy as "Go New York, Go New York, Go!" blared over the sound system.
