The Subway Series is back, back again.

This time the Mets and Yankees will play two games at Yankee Stadium. In this year’s previous Subway Series, the Mets swept the Yanks at Citi Field.

Luis Gil will get the nod for the Yankees as Jose Quintana will be on the mound for the Mets.

The Yankees hold the top AL wild-card spot and are 1.5 games back of the Orioles in the AL East while the Mets hold the third NL wild-card spot.

Judge makes Subway Series history

By Zach Braziller

Aaron Judge became the first player in Mets-Yankees history to walk four times in a single Subway Series game. The Mets pitched around Judge all night until the ninth, when Jake Diekman walked him. Without proper protection, there was no need to go after him. JD Davis and Ben Rice were a combined 0-for-5 hitting behind Judge.

"It's a team game. Even if I went 4-4 today, you know, we still might not win," Judge said.

Mendoza: Diaz was unavailable due to overuse

By Zach Braziller

After throwing 29 pitches yesterday. Edwin Diaz wasn't available. He had pitched three of four days. Jake Diekman got the call and came through.

"We've been saying, guys are going to get the big outs, they're going to get the opportunities. Huge spot for him," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said.

Mendoza said he didn't think of walking Aaron Judge in the ninth.

"Feel for the game there, saw how Diekman was throwing the ball. Runner on second base probably a different story," Mendoza said.

Mets ride clutch Jeff McNeil homer to tense win over Yankees in Subway Series opener

By Greg Joyce

Two teams trending in different directions of late stuck to the script on Tuesday night.

In a tense Subway Series battle that was left up to the bullpens, Jeff McNeil’s two-run homer off ex-Met Michael Tonkin in the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the Mets’ 3-2 win over the Yankees in The Bronx.

But the drama came to a crescendo in the bottom of the ninth.

Mets win, take season series

By Zach Braziller

Jake Diekman gets the job done. He strikes out Aaron Judge after walking Juan Soto and retires Ben Rice on a groundout. A very big win for the Mets and a brutal loss for the Yankees. Mets have won the season series and are now 3-0 against the Yankees this year.

The bullpen allowed one runs over four really strong innings. Diekman, who has really struggled, comes up big. Yankees decision to go with that odd lineup really hurt them.
