Justin Hagenman had quite the day, but it's one that every player is willing to play for.

He threw for 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and four runs (all earned) while also tallying five strikeouts.

Mets' Jeff McNeil hardly knew he made crucial ninth inning play

By Bridget Reilly

Outside of hitting the go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning for the Mets to regain the lead in their 6-5 victory over the Yankees, Jeff McNeil made a big play in the top of the ninth as the Mets tried to hold the Yankees' bats off.

With one out, DJ LeMahieu hit a weird bouncing ground ball to second base that McNeil came down hard on the ground for, impressively trapping the ball in his glove to make the play at first for the second out.

When asked about the play after the victory, McNeil said "When that ball hit my glove, I said 'Oh s--t, it's in my glove!"

By Bridget Reilly

Soto went 3-for-4 on Friday with a home run, double, a single, and two RBIs in the Mets' 6-5 win over the Yankees.

His second inning home run was his first as a Met over his former team.

"He's one of the best for a reason, he's extremely locked in right now. He's just an incredibly hard AB"

A frustrated Aaron Boone defends Anthony Volpe over costly missed play

By Bridget Reilly

In the bottom of the third inning with the game tied 2-2 and Juan Soto on second base, Pete Alonso ripped a ball past Anthony Volpe, bouncing off his glove, into left field.

The Jasson Dominguez throw home wasn't in time to stop Soto from scoring, giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.

When asked about whether Volpe could have made that play, Boone came off frustrated for his shortstop in the postgame press conference.

"It's a rocket that's an in-between hop that he's trying to make a play on," he said. "So yeah, can he make that play? Of course. Is it a special play if he makes it? Yes. So, man [shakes his head]. So, yeah could have made the play. It's about as tough as one comes and, you know, we got a special defender out there and yeah, so could have made it."

The press conference concluded after the question.
