Mets’ Francisco Lindor playing at MVP level at perfect time

By Jon Heyman

Mets star Francisco Lindor was an all-time All-Star snub this year. But if this keeps up, he needs to enter the MVP conversation.

If it’s up to me, that starts today.

Sure, the award for now seems more likely go to the incomparable DH, Shohei Ohtani, who is doing otherworldly things again out on the West Coast with LA. However, Lindor is deserving of at least some words, so here goes 850 of them about the best player on a team that’s killing it now and suddenly looks destined for the playoffs.

Gerrit Cole hammered by Mets again as ace can’t halt Yankees’ struggles

By Zach Braziller

Gerrit Cole is paid quite handsomely to halt poor stretches.

As the high-priced ace, it’s part of his job description.

But instead of putting out the fire that is the Yankees’ ongoing struggles, he tossed kerosene onto it.

Mets complete Subway Series sweep of Yankees with convincing rout

By Andrew Crane

This was far from the thrilling finish Tuesday night. This, for most of the game’s final three innings, was a Subway Series rout.

Five homers — two from Francisco Lindor, one from Pete Alonso, one from Tyrone Taylor, one from Mark Vientos — allowed the Mets to leave The Bronx with a season sweep of the Yankees, finishing the series with a convincing 12-3 win Wednesday night.

The Mets moved five games over .500 entering their pivotal series against the Braves this weekend, while the Yankees’ brutal slide continued ahead of their trip to Fenway Park to face the Red Sox starting Friday.

Mets turn Subway Series finale into a rout with six-run eighth

By Andrew Crane

There was the Mark Vientos homer. The Francisco Lindor homer. A double. A single. A sacrifice fly. A fielder’s choice error. The Mets’ eighth inning contained just about everything, and it all translated to six runs against the Yankees.

That extended their lead to 12-2. And it nearly turned into a larger margin than that, as Jeff McNeil flew out to Juan Soto on the warning track to end the frame.

Francisco Lindor launches second homer of night as Mets

By Andrew Crane

Francisco Lindor blasted his second homer of the night over the left-center fence to give the Mets an 11-2 lead in the eighth inning. That allowed Jose Iglesias, who singled, and Tyrone Taylor, who reached base for the fourth time Wednesday with a fielder’s choice error, to score.

Across five at-bats, Lindor has collected three hits, and he’s now up to 21 homers this season for the Mets. He homered from the left side of the plate against Gerrit Cole in the fifth inning, and this time, facing lefty Caleb Ferguson, Lindor homered from the right-handed batter's box.

Mark Vientos' latest homer gives Mets a five-run lead

By Andrew Crane

Mark Vientos’ breakout season at the plate continued with a home run — his 13th of the year — to lead off the eighth inning against Tim Hill, giving the Mets a 7-2 lead.

They’ve homered four times tonight, and that has positioned them to complete the Subway Series sweep.
