CHICAGO — The Mets discovered a complete tear of Jose Reyes‘ right hamstring tendon during his recent rehab process, and the club says surgery is possible if the ailing shortstop doesn’t respond to treatment.

Reyes has been on the disabled list since May 21, and a statement from the Mets in early June said Reyes’ hamstring tendon behind the right knee was only partially torn. The team has not yet said how or when the complete tear occurred.

If Reyes needs surgery, he would be the ninth Mets player this season to go under the knife.
