ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner are not in the Yankees’ lineup again Wednesday against the Rays.

Gardner (inflamed right wrist) was told not to pick up a bat in order to take advantage of Thursday’s day off. He could return Friday night against the Orioles.

“It’s feeling a lot better,’’ said Gardner, who hasn’t started since Saturday.

Swisher, who received a cortisone shot Tuesday, said his inflamed left knee was feeling very good.

“The last time I felt this good was before it happened,’’ said Swisher, who fouled a ball off the knee Aug. 24.

Swisher said he couldn’t provide an exact timetable for a return.

“I don’t know, it’s all on a pain basis,’’ said Swisher, who hasn’t started since Saturday.

The team called up reliever Royce Ring from Triple-A.
