Takahashi signs minor deal
PORT ST. LUCIE — The Mets signed reliever Ken Takahashi to a minor-league contract today after the Japanese left-hander was released earlier in the day by the Blue Jays. Takahashi, 39, had appeared in one exhibition game with Toronto after spending the first 14 years of his baseball career with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in his native country. GM Omar Minaya said Takahashi would get a look here this week but likely start the season at Triple-A Buffalo.
