TAMPA – Mark Teixeira declared Thursday that he’ll be able to return from the disabled list when eligible on Sunday and didn’t sound like he’d be thrilled about waiting any longer than that.

“I’ll be ready Sunday. I don’t make the transactions,” the Yankees first baseman said after playing in an extended spring training game at the team’s minor league complex. “I’ll be ready to play Sunday and disappointed if I don’t.”

Teixeira has been out since April 4 with what had been termed a strained hamstring. He clarified Thursday the injury actually is to an adductor muscle alongside the hamstring.

He said before the extended spring game versus Toronto he has “really felt great from Day 3” after sustaining the leg injury. He played three innings at first base in the game, going 0-for-1 with a strikeout and two walks, and ran the bases hard on two occasions.
