As expected, the Mets today promoted 1986 World Series veteran Tim Teufel to manager of their Double-A Binghamton affiliate.
The move was announced the same day that Teufel’s platoon-mate on that championship team, Wally Backman, was hired to manage Single-A Brooklyn.
Teufel, 51, moves up from managing the St. Lucie Mets, the team’s High-A affiliate in the Florida State League, whom he had guided in four of the past five seasons.
Teufel takes over for Mako Oliveras, who was dismissed after the B-Mets finished a woeful 54-86 this past season — one of the worst records of any team in the minors.
