There will be no need for a one-game playoff Monday as the Mets’ 4-2 loss to the Marlins combined with the Brewers’ 3-1 win over the Cubs today ended the Mets’ season and closed down Shea Stadium for good. Jerry Manuel‘s club finished 89-73, three games behind the Phillies in the NL East and a game behind Milwaukee in the wild card. It was the second consecutive year that the Mets’ season ended on the final day at the hands of Florida.
