While it’s easy to insert two-start pitchers like Sonny Gray, Gerrit Cole, Jon Lester and Cole Hamels into your playoff rotation, it’s not as easy to determine the other two-start pitchers worth using as you continue your quest for fantasy glory. Here’s a look at some hurlers who can help and some who may hurt you this week:

Ubaldo Jimenez is one of Roto Files’ favorite two-start possibilities for the upcoming week. Why? First of all, history is on his side. There are two times of the season where he truly excels — June and September/October. In his career, he is 21-11 with a 3.21 ERA in June and 19-13 with a 3.43 ERA in the final two months. This season, the righty went 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA in June and already is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two starts this month. The second reason is Jimenez (available in more than 65 percent of ESPN and Yahoo leagues) faces the Red Sox and Rays, two teams he has had success against. He is 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA against Boston this season, and is 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA in five career starts against the Rays.

Carlos Rodon faces the A’s and Indians and could be sneaky start. Over his past six starts, Rodon is 3-2 with a 1.76 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 41 innings. Only downfall: 15 walks.

Be careful with St. Louis’ Carlos Martinez, who has gone 3-4 with a 4.24 ERA and a .307 opponent batting average in the second half while pitching a career-high 164 2/3 innings. Also be careful with Scott Kazmir (2-5, 3.13 ERA in nine starts with Houston) and red-hot Josh Tomlin, who is 5-0 with a 2.86 ERA over his past five starts but could be due for a letdown.

Don’t be afraid to start injury-plagued Stephen Strasburg, who has two favorable matchups against the Phillies and Marlins. Despite the injuries, he has pitched well in the second half (3-2, 2.63 ERA, 51 strikeouts in six starts). You should also feel confident starting Jordan Zimmermann for his two starts.

J.A. Happ has been hot, going 5-0 with a 1.00 ERA, 36 strikeouts and a .183 opponent batting average over his past six starts, but he has tough matchups with the Cubs (they handed him his only loss with the Pirates on Aug. 4) and Dodgers. And don’t forget, he’s a pitcher with a 4.18 career ERA.

If you’re a low seed and your back is against the wall versus one of the top two seeds in your league, you might throw caution to the wind with Minnesota’s Tyler Duffey. After being crushed in his big league debut (he faced the Jays), the 6-foot-3 righty went 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA and 29 strikeouts over his next five starts (the team is 4-1 in that span). He faces the Tigers and Angels, but, hey, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Two-start pitchers to avoid: Julio Teheran (talented, but the Braves are not), Jeff Samardzija (3-8, 6.46 ERA in second half) and CC Sabathia (if you’re looking to start him, you’re probably in a consolation game).

Big hits

Jedd Gyorko 2B, Padres

From Aug. 1 through Friday, Gyorko was 37-for-142 (.261) with nine homers, 28 RBIs and a .784 OPS. These are the numbers that made him an appealing sleeper this year.

Didi Gregorius SS, Yankees

Derek who? In his first 51 games since the All-Star break, the 25-year-old hit .318 with five homers, 31 RBIs and a .804 OPS.

Rick Porcello SP, Red Sox

Since returning from the disabled list on Aug. 26, the 26-year-old has gone 2-1 with a 1.61 ERA, a .220 opponent batting average and 22 strikeouts over 22 1/3 innings.

Corey Seager SS, Dodgers

In his first eight big-league games, the 21-year-old was 10-for-26 (.385) with four RBIs, four doubles, one stolen base, six walks and a 1.038 OPS. He has also struck out just four times.

Big whiffs

Mike Trout OF, Angels

Yeah, that’s right! Mike Trout! From Aug. 1 through Friday, he was 29-for-131 (.221) with two homers, nine RBIs, no stolen bases and a .719 OPS. Not exactly what you expect from the No. 1 overall player when you need him most.

Mat Latos SP, Dodgers

Was scratched from his start Wednesday, which is a good thing since he has been a disaster in L.A. Over five starts, Latos is 0-2 with a 6.56 ERA and just 16 strikeouts.

Scott Kazmir SP, Astros

The veteran lefty is 0-2 with a 4.67 ERA over his last three starts. In nine starts since being dealt from the A’s to the Astros, Kazmir has gone 2-5 with a 3.13 ERA.

Max Scherzer SP, Nationals

He will start Sunday, but that may not be a good thing. After going 10-7 with a 2.11 ERA in the first half, he has gone 1-4 with a 5.12 ERA in 10 second-half starts.
