Are Clint Frazier’s days as a Yankee coming to a close?
It could be trending that way, with multiple reports suggesting he’s on the trading block, to go along with his own strange tweet last night.
The mercurial outfielder has twice been bypassed for a potential promotion in favor of Mike Tauchman and more recently Cameron Maybin. By 4 p.m. Wednesday, Frazier could be part of another organization.
Jon Heyman reported the Yankees are willing to move him for a starting pitcher. Peter Gammons added that the Diamondbacks are a potential match, with Frazier being part of a deal including Robbie Ray or Archie Bradley. And Monday night, the defensively challenged Frazier sent out an odd tweet, with a series of unrelated letters followed by several exclamation marks.
The RailRiders, the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, even had some fun with Frazier’s online antics.
Frazier performed well offensively with the Yankees, posting a .283/.330/.513 slash line with an .843 OPS in 53 games as injuries gave him a chance to showcase his potential. But his defense became a problem, and he was combative with the media, blowing off reporters after one poor game. He was sent down on June 16 and hasn’t returned since.
Frazier may never return to the Bronx in pinstripes.
