If Vegas put odds on such things, Padres ace Tyson Ross would probably begin this season as the most likely high-end starter to be traded by the Aug. 1 deadline.

The Marlins just might contend with Jose Fernandez, the same with the White Sox and Chris Sale. The A’s have been adamant that they are not moving Sonny Gray – but let’s see.

Ross, though, checks all the boxes for likely to be traded: 1. He plays for a team unlikely to contend and desirous of wanting prospects to build for the future. 2. His free agency is nearing (after the 2017 season) with no indications he will re-sign in San Diego. 3. He is good, having produced a 3.03 ERA over the past two years. 4. Teams, including the Yankees last July, have been trying to acquire him.

“After going through (all the rumors), I am used to this,” Ross said. “I focus on what is going on inside the clubhouse. It is wasted energy in my life to think too much about it.”
