The Yanks felt they had no place else to turn when they re-signed Jorge Posada for four years at $52 million. But relief pitchers are not the only players Joe Torre pushed hard in his time as manager. He used Posada a lot. And now at 36, Posada faces a serious injury. He may have a tear in his shoulder and could be facing surgery. He definitely is facing the first major league DL time of his career.

His offense and passion will not be easily replaced. Catching is a hard commodity to find, and GM Brian Cashman did not do a particularly strong job in the winter adding depth.
