Among the 199 players who began Wednesday’s action with at least 100 plate appearances, Luis Castillo had the fewest extra-base hits at two. Drop the qualification to 75 plate appearances and there are 250 players listed and just one with no extra-base hits. That is Brian Schneider.

It underscores just how weak the bottom of the Met order is. With Schneider, Castillo and a pitcher, the bottom third of the Met order is a real respite for opposing pitchers. There is little game-changing threat there.
