The season isn’t over yet, but Dillon Gee is ready to put it behind him.
“Just looking back, right now, the word that comes to mind is ‘frustrating,’ ” the Mets right-hander said. “Just very inconsistent, with the injury, everything that we went through, the whole year kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth.”
In his final start of the season, Gee allowed four earned runs on nine hits over five innings and received a no-decision in the Mets’ 7-4 victory over the Nationals in Game 1.
Gee (7-8), who missed nearly two months early in the season with a strained right lat, went 3-7 with a 5.10 ERA after the All-Star break.
“I wish we had answers,” manager Terry Collins said.
Travis d’Arnaud wasn’t in the starting lineup for either game because of a sore elbow. D’Arnaud was examined by a doctor on Wednesday and will be reevaluated on Friday, according to Collins.
Jeurys Familia struck out the side in the eighth in Game 1 and was a consideration to return for the ninth, but Collins wanted to ensure he would have the right-hander on Friday. Jenrry Mejia pitched a scoreless ninth for his 28th save in 31 chances.
