Aaron Judge is having a season that almost makes him Superman. The things he’s doing at the plate this year seem out of a video game. He’s carrying a Yankees lineup that, without him, probably is nowhere near where it is now atop the AL East standings.
After turning down a contract extension, he’s in line to make millions and millions more than what the Yankees had offered him.
Judge is just two homers from tying Roger Maris’ Yankees and AL record of 61, three more from taking the titles for himself — and some would argue the all-time, non-tainted single-season record-holder.
To talk about Judge and the Yankees’ season, his manager Aaron Boone stopped by “The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.
The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman Opening Segment:
- JUDGE/HOME RUN RECORD: The Yankees would not be here without Aaron Judge. He is the clear MVP. The guys consider Roger Maris’ 61 home runs as the true HR record and it looks like Judge will past that mark before the season ends. Judge has put the Yankees offense on his back. His numbers are almost not human. They discuss what his next contract could look like.
- METS CLINCH: The Mets are postseason bound. Will they win the NL East?
Aaron Boone Interview: Yankees manager
- AARON JUDGE: Remarkable season. What is special about him is how good of a teammate he is. Has liked him hitting atop the lineup because he gets as many at bats as possible.
- HR RECORD: Truly a historic year. Should be celebrated if/when he gets past 61.
- PLAYOFF PUSH: Getting reinforcements back this week. Guys on horizon. Setting themselves up nicely going into October.
- GERRIT COLE: Can he be the playoff ace? The next step for him is finding consistency to be dominant. His mistakes have turned into homers. He will definitely be the Game 1 starter.
- CRITICISM: It comes with the territory. You sign up for this.
