Memorial Day is the official start of summer and for Joe Girardi, the managerial seat in Philadelphia is starting to get hot.
After getting swept by the Mets this past weekend, as well as only winning one of their last seven games, the Phillies currently sit 11.5 games out of first place in the NL East. With high expectations coming into the season, the blame appears to be falling on the ex-Yankees manager. But is Girardi getting unfairly blamed for the Phillies’ poor first two months?
Also, are the Mets truly this good or just a product of the teams they’ve faced? With Juan Soto reportedly not being shopped, what will the trade deadline look like?
All that and lots more are discussed on Episode 3 of “The Show” with The Post’s own baseball columnists Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.
The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman
- GIRARDI ON THE HOT SEAT: The hope of bringing Joe to manage the Phillies was that he’d have an impact on the team, but so far it doesn’t seem like it. However, is it a Girardi or Dave Dombrowski problem?
- THE SLAP HEARD AROUND BASEBALL: Joc Pederson handled getting slapped by Tommy Pham the best he could after a dispute over their fantasy football league. Jon and Joel wonder why current athletes are so wrapped up in social media.
- DO YOU BELIEVE IN IT: The AL Central has a ton of question marks, but which teams from the division are good? Can Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani get the Angels to the playoffs? Are the Mets an exceptional team?
- WHAT’S IN YOUR NOTEBOOK: Jon speaks to the speculation of Jim Leyland being a candidate to replace Girardi in Philadelphia if a change is made. Joel notes of former Pirates starting pitchers leading the free agent class this upcoming offseason. They also discuss what could be a difficult trade deadline with the lack of good, available players.
