The Yankees signed Aaron Judge. The Mets have signed everyone else.
The two New York baseball teams have not been afraid to spend hundreds of millions of dollars so far in free agency. Money has been flying across MLB and there are still plenty of names still available.
To talk about some of the moves, we bring you a new episode of “The Show” with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. The guys are joined on the podcast by Yankees center fielder and New York native Harrison Bader. Bader dives into everything from playing at home in NYC, the trade to the Yanks, his defense, his hair and much more.
“The Show” Podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:
- BEST FREE AGENT MOVES: What have been the best signings so far? Who may have signed too early?
- THE COHEN TAX: The Mets spent big on pitching. Joel is a big fan of the signings of Justin Verlander, Jose Quintana, David Robertson and trading for Brooks Raley. Steve Cohen is blowing through the luxury tax. Getting Edwin Diaz early was reasonable. Center-field market was slim, which kind of made them bring Brandon Nimmo back. Other owners could come down on Cohen. He is doing all he can to spend to make the team as good as possible. Mets’ fanbase loves him.
- RED SOX PLANS: Xander Bogaerts is a great player, but that is a ton of money to give him. Joel and Jon are confused by the Red Sox’s strategy. They do not like Kenley Jansen getting two years, $32 million. He is trending the wrong way as a closer. It seems like no plan from the Red Sox front office, despite smart people and a lot of money.
Harrison Bader Interview: Yankees center fielder
- JUDGE RETURNS: Hard to really earn anything in this game. Could not be more happy for him. Excited to play with him next season.
- YANKEES VS. CARDINALS: St. Louis is a bit smaller and more accessible. Airport is smaller. Both cities have the same energy around baseball and high expectations.
- FOOT INJURY: It was a debilitating injury dealing with plantar fasciitis. Had a great medical staff.
- TRADE TO YANKEES: Was in N.Y. at the time of the trade. It was a roller coaster of emotions after spending his entire career in St. Louis.
- WBC: Decided not to play in WBC for Team Israel. Wants to be healthy and ready for the Yankees for the 2023 season.
