The All-Star Game in Los Angeles is just a week away. While the game might not determine home-field advantage in the World Series anymore, it’s still an entertaining few days of events, highlighted by the game and the home run derby. But what can MLB do to make it better?

That was addressed on this week’s episode of “The Show” with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. But more importantly, The Post’s baseball columnists were joined by Mets team president Sandy Alderson. He covers everything from the Mets’ plans at the trade deadline to the future of Francisco Alvarez, Jacob deGrom and much more.

The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman

  • HOW TO IMPROVE ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES: More skills competitions. One of home run derby participants should be player that hit the longest homer of season. Wednesday could be a skills competition where players do various competitions outside of baseball.
  • EXECUTIVE YOU LIKED MOST COVERING: George Bradley (Jon) Jim Duquette (Joel)
  • EXECUTIVE YOU LIKED LEAST COVERING: Bob Quinn (Jon & Joel)

Sandy Alderson Interview: Mets team president

  • TRADE DEADLINE: Need a hitter and a bullpen move.
  • JACOB DEGROM: End of month at latest looks to be his return.
  • PROSPECTS: Some prospects like Alvarez off limits. Brett Baty is close to off limits. Matt Allan has been injured, so hard to deal without seeing him pitch more. Had deals offered to him for Brandon Nimmo and Zack Wheeler in past while they were hurt.
  • STEVE COHEN: Opportunities are much broader with him.
  • BILLY EPPLER: Has done a good job thus far. There was a short window where Billy Beane was an option for the GM job, but he passed.
  • ALVAREZ/DH: Francisco Alvarez is not an immediate option at DH. Needs to get feet wet in AAA. Waiting on current options to perform better. Could go internal, but also could acquire a DH.
  • LONG-TERM SUCCESS: Resources change the environment for success. Payroll almost double what it was in 2015-16.
