No miracle has healed Tim Tebow’s hand.
The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and Mets outfield farmhand was placed on the disabled list after injuring his right hand on Thursday, the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced Saturday.
Tebow’s injury occurred in Binghamton’s 3-2 win over the Trenton Thunder, a Yankees affiliate. The left fielder was removed from the game in the seventh inning after seemingly hurting his hand during a swing, leading to his first stint in his professional baseball career that he has landed on the DL.
Tebow, who turns 31 next month, is slated to visit a hand specialist on Monday in New York City. For the year, he is hitting .273 with six home runs and 36 RBIs in 84 games, all at Binghamton, and there has been plenty of speculation he’ll be a September call-up.
“He’s one of our able players, but he’s not able to swing,” Rojas told reporters, according to WBNG.com. “We’re really tentative to use him in any other area. The organization and our medical trainer required him to go to New York as soon as possible. We have to find out what the discomfort is. We just have to make sure that it’s nothing major.”
