The Triple-A plan for Rob Refsnyder is to play him at first base, third base, right field and second base.

Not long ago, the Yankees might have believed he had a route to the majors at a single position, but the deepening of their minor league system has impacted Refsnyder as much as anyone.

Refsnyder, 26, has good bat-to-ball skills, but limited power, ordinary speed and is not considered a strong defender at any position. Unless he has a Daniel Murphy-like jump from contact hitter to power hitter, Refsnyder will be challenged to find a regular major league job.

Thus, his versatility will need to be his ticket back to the Yankees or to build his value to be included in a trade.
