Unnecessary roughness?

Tim Tebow, accustomed to shots in the head, got one from a beanball, not an incoming rusher, on Saturday in Tampa.

The High-A St. Lucie outfielder and former NFL flameout was on the receiving end of a fastball from Tampa Yankees lefty Trevor Lane, the ball richocheting off his helmet in the ninth inning and leaving Tebow a bit dazed.

The Mets farmhand was checked by coaches and the team trainer and elected to stay in the game, that old football toughness creeping back. He then scored on a two-run double by J.C. Rodriguez.

Tebow is now batting .243 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 44 games with St. Lucie after being promoted from Low-A. Though Tebow started hot upon reaching St. Lucie in late June, he’s just 5-for-37 (.135) with only one extra-base hit — a double — in 10 August games.
