WASHINGTON — The Mets’ willingness to let Jose Reyes continue testing his ailing right leg came back to bite them in a big way today when an MRI exam revealed that the shortstop tore his right hamstring muscle Tuesday.
The torn hamstring muscle is a new injury and is in addition to the torn right hamstring tendon Reyes suffered while running in Florida in early June.
Reyes suffered the latest hamstring injury while running Tuesday at a workout facility in New York. The newest injury would likely require surgery if it is a complete tear, but the Mets did not immediately announce the severity of the tear or if an operation is planned.
