Trevor Bauer flew to Boston on Sunday. Could he be returning on a one-way ticket soon?
The pending free-agent pitcher tagged the Red Sox in a tweet Sunday evening that revealed he was making a trip to Boston, writing “Hey @redsox you up?” Bauer, who’s coming off his first full season with the Reds after getting traded from the Indians, is expected to be one of the most sought after free-agent hurlers on the market this offseason.
In 11 starts for the Reds this season, Bauer went 5-4 with a 1.73 ERA. He was shipped from the Indians to the Reds before the non-waiver deadline in 2019, just one season after he had been an American League All-Star and finished sixth in Cy Young Award voting.
The Red Sox are fresh off a last-place finish in 2020 and are likely looking to bolster their rotation to keep up with the Yankees and Rays. Left-handed pitchers Chris Sale, who underwent Tommy John surgery, and Eduardo Rodriguez, who was dealing with a coronavirus-related heart condition, are expected to return for Boston in 2021.
To the fans in my mentions right now:@Reds fans: I love you all. Thanks for an amazing season! Wish you could’ve been at the ballpark!
Braves fans: Seems like y’all hate me and I wouldn’t be embraced here! What a shame… 😕
Astros fans: LOL, why are y’all here? Stay mad.

2018 World Series savior Nathan Eovaldi and rookie standout Tanner Houck will also be back for the Red Sox. Houck went 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA in a late-season run with the Red Sox in 2020.
