The Yankees honored the memory of superfan Freddy “Sez” Schuman, who died at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattann on Sunday at the age of 85, before last night’s Game 3 by having an employee stand just inside of Gate 4 with Freddy’s trademark frying pan and spoon, giving fans a final chance to bang them together.

The Yankees also held a moment of silence for the sign-toting Schuman before the game. He had been attending Yankees games regularly since 1988.

“He always gave us that extra oomph,” said Junior Pagan of The Bronx, who stood outside Gate 4 prior to the game with a homemade Freddy “Sez” tribute. “He encouraged every fan to cheer on the team. He always made us smile. He was a true fan.”
