The Mets’ game against the Cubs was finally put into the rain delay on Monday night, but not before starter Kodai Senga slipped on the mound warming up.
Senga was taking his warmup pitches to get loose before the start of the seventh inning when his left landing leg skidded forward on the Citi Field mound with the Mets leading 7-2 and rain steadily coming down in Queens.
The righty’s legs wobbled a bit before he was able to get his right leg down to regain his balance.

The grounds crew went to work on the mound under the supervision of the umpires and Mets manager Buck Showalter.
“You have to stop the game,” Gary Cohn exclaimed on the SNY to which partner Ron Darling agreed.
Senga appeared to be pointing to the landing area on the front of the mound needing to dried.
“Once you see that you’re endangering the player,” Cohen added later. “There’s no reason to endanger the players no matter what the score is.”
He took a few more cautious warmup pitches before Showalter came back over and motioned that Senga’s day was done.

The game went into a rain delay shortly after.
Senga, one of the few bright spots for the Mets this season, was in the middle of a strong outing, allowing just seven hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out six on just 85 pitches.
