Yankees pitcher Javier Vazquez was removed after six brilliant innings against the New York Mets on Friday night because of a bruised right index finger.
Making only his second start in 21 days, Vazquez limited the Mets to a hit and two walks while striking out six. He needed only 70 pitches to go six innings.
The Yankees said Vazquez would be taken for X-rays.
It was unclear when Vazquez was hurt. He retired the Mets in order during the sixth, inducing a pair of fly balls and striking out pinch hitter Gary Matthews Jr., before manager Joe Girardi called on reliever David Robertson to start the seventh.
