Former closer Billy Wagner has finished his rehab work and is expected to rejoin the Mets sometime next week, Jerry Manuel said before today’s game with the Giants.

Manuel didn’t have an exact day but said Wagner will make no more minor-league appearances after pitching in his seventh rehab appearance — all without problem — last Friday in Port St. Lucie.

Wagner, who is just 11 months removed from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, is expected to be used in a middle-relief role by Manuel. The Mets also are open to trading Wagner. The Mets already have told Wagner they will not be picking up his option for next season.
