Mets reliever Billy Wagner made his first minor-league rehab assignment since Tommy John surgery on his left elbow last year, and the results were impressive.
Pitching for Single-A St. Lucie in the Florida State League, Wagner pitched a scoreless seventh inning against Lakeland with two strikeouts and a groundout. Even better, eight of Wagner’s 10 pitches were for strikes.
If Wagner continues to hold up well, he could rejoin the Mets’ bullpen as soon as mid-August.
