A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that pitcher Chien-Ming Wang and the Washington Nationals have reached an agreement on a $2 million, one-year contract.

The deal includes the chance to earn $3 million in performance bonuses, the person said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the agreement was not yet final.

Washington planned to announce the deal during a news conference Friday at spring training, the person said.

Wang has not pitched since July 4 after injuring his shoulder and will likely not join the Nationals rotation until May. Wang went 38-13 for the Yankees in 2006 and 2007, but a heel injury derailed his 2008 season when he was 8-2. Wang never fully recovered and went 1-6 with a 9.64 ERA, and spent time in the minors and bullpen, before the shoulder injury ended his season
