This was no laughing matter, according to Aroldis Chapman.

The Yankees closer slammed social media critics who bashed him Saturday night for appearing to laugh after giving up a walk-off home run to end the Yankees’ season.

“That is so stupid,” Chapman told ESPN of the reactions. “How can anyone possibly think that? We had just fought back to tie Game 6 and were trying to send the series to a Game 7. I don’t know what they’re referring to, but I was simply in shock. I couldn’t believe that happened.”

Chapman was shown smiling after giving up a walk-off home run to Jose Altuve in Game 6 of the ALCS in Houston.

The look was eerily similar to the facial expression Mariano Rivera had after giving up the walk-off single that lost the Yankees the 2001 World Series, according to an image uncovered by Twitter user @erinnmarieeg.

The 31-year-old Chapman had a mostly stellar season and is eligible to opt out of the final two years of his contract this offseason. He currently is owed $30 million.
