Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is having an MVP-type season. But last week it wasn’t what he did with the bat or glove that made the news.

Nick D’Annibale, a 13-year old who has leukemia, was playing softball in New York close to the MLB Fan Cave in Manhattan, when Cano popped out of a nearby ice cream truck to surprise him.

“You’re better than me,” Cano said after D’annibale had some nice hits.

D’Annibale has been playing baseball for seven years and idolizes Cano for his hitting as well as his defense. Hard to argue, since Cano has 12 home runs 35 RBIs and is batting .295 for the first-place Yankees.

“Special guys like Nick…it’s always a pleasure an honor to be around guys like that,” Cano said, who also took a few swings.
