Tim Tebow will work out for major league scouts Aug. 30 in Los Angeles.

The showcase will have strong similarities to what Cuban defectors do for MLB officials, which is fitting because as is the case with many of the Cubans, most major league officials have never laid eyes in person on Tebow, the baseball player.

Tebow’s representatives, CAA, have run such workouts for Cuban clients including Rusney Castillo, who ultimately signed with the Red Sox.

The plan will be for Tebow to run a 60-yard dash, catch fly balls with throws to the bases, take live batting practice and then take batting practice against more advanced pitchers who will not tell him what is coming and will be trying to get him out.

As part of his training in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the baseball academy of former major league catcher Chad Moeller, Tebow has been swinging against former major leaguer David Aardsma, who pitched at Triple-A for Toronto earlier this season.

What an exciting day!! So excited for @TimTebow !!! The swing is for real!!! pic.twitter.com/klmzhI1YF9

The Heisman Trophy-winning former quarterback last appeared in an NFL game in 2012.

Tebow, who turned 29 earlier this month, has not played organized baseball since high school. He has been working regularly with Moeller for about two months. He and his representatives insist this is not a publicity stunt, and Tebow is hoping to get signed by an organization. The workout is not scheduled to be open to the public.
