Trenton reliever Kevin Whelan, who already missed the first month of the season with a sore arm, was placed on the 15-day DL by the Thunder today for undisclosed reasons. After going 1-0 with a 4.67 ERA in nine games with Tampa, Whelan was promoted to Double-A a week ago, and has gone 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two games with Trenton.

Whelan was originially drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 draft by the Tigers, and was one of the players involved in the Gary Sheffield trade, headlined by another pitching prospect, Humberto Sanchez.
