Jorge Posada re-opened the debate that will not die by saying Monday that he believes Joba Chamberlain should be put in the bullpen next season and kept there. I understand Posada’s argument. He fears that Chamberlain is too susceptible to injury with a starter’s workload and that he is dominant in the pen. But I would still be trying to make Chamberlain a starter because it is tougher to find an ace than anything else in the sport, and Chamberlain has a chance to be an ace. The Yanks did not fail this year because of the lack of an eighth-inning stalwart to fill in for Chamberlain, and in prospects Mark Melancon and Humberto Sanchez they may have two high-level righties with a chance to set up Mariano Rivera.
