TAMPA — The Yankees have 10 more players to cut before Sunday’s noon deadline to have the Opening Day roster at 25.

Following Sunday’s game against the Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees sent infielders Ruben Tejada and Donovan Solano and catcher Wilkin Castillo to the minor league camp.

That left the Yankees with 35 names for 25 spots.

Most of the choices will involve the pitching staff, because the position jobs — other than shortstop — are pretty clear.

Pitchers on the bubble are Chasen Shreve, Jordan Montgomery, Jonathan Holder, Ben Heller and Chad Green, for two or three spots. Luis Severino likely will either be in the rotation or a starter at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. (Bryan Mitchell likely sticks in some fashion; Ernesto Frieri and J.R. Graham almost certainly will not.)

Utility man Rob Refsnyder’s chances of sticking aren’t good, and Tyler Wade, a candidate to replace the injured Didi Gregorius at short, is likely to open at SWB, as is catcher Kyle Higashioka. (Gregorius and Tyler Austin, counted among the 35, are headed to the disabled list.)

If infielder Pete Kozma is put on the 25-man roster, a spot on the 40-man roster needs to be opened.

Jon Niese will decide by Tuesday if he will accept a minor league contract to return to the Yankees. There are strong indications the 30-year-old lefty will take the offer and attempt to build arm strength in the extended spring program.

Niese, who was released Sunday, had a May 15 out date in the original minor league invite, but a new contract needs to be finalized.

Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka starts Tuesday night against the Tigers at GMS Field. Montgomery goes Wednesday versus the Blue Jays in Dunedin and Luis Severino faces the Phillies in Clearwater on Thursday.
