CHICAGO — Wilmer Font wasn’t much in his auditions as a starter for the Mets, but in the bullpen, he can’t go wrong.

The right-hander continued his dominant relief work Thursday, with three shutout innings in the Mets’ 7-4 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Font entered in the fourth inning, after starter Walker Lockett was knocked out in the third, with Brooks Pounders finishing the inning.

In seven relief appearances since arriving in a trade with the Rays last month, Font has pitched to a 0.69 ERA. In three starts with the Mets before moving full-time to the bullpen, he had a 7.84 ERA.

“I’m just attacking the hitters a lot more,” Font said through an interpreter. “I feel like I was lazy before that, not going after hitters.”

Font’s recent dominance has manager Mickey Callaway considering the righty for starting duty Tuesday in Philadelphia, as the team awaits the return from the injured list of Noah Syndergaard, who is out with a strained right hamstring and eligible to return Wednesday.

“[Font] is throwing the ball over the plate,” Callaway said. “He’s got a fastball he can use up in the zone for swing and miss, his breaking ball he throws for strikes when he wants to, tonight he was executing it late for swings and misses as well. His last four outings he’s doing the job, I really like what I’m seeing.”

Todd Frazier became the 36th active player with at least 200 career home runs with his solo blast in the ninth inning.

Pete Alonso’s third-inning blast had an exit velocity of 117 mph, the hardest-hit homer at Wrigley Field in the Statcast era, which began in 2015.
