Last night was almost certainly Mariano Rivera’s final appearance at Citi Field against the Mets, something even Jeff Wilpon seemed to admit before the game.

“It’s a great honor to have you be here for the last time,” Wilpon said while presenting the Yankees’ closer with memorabilia from the FDNY before the Mets’ 2-1 victory over the Yankees. “I wish we could see you in the World Series, but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen this year.”

Rivera quickly chimed in, “You never know” and Wilpon followed suit, saying, “That’s right, you never know.”

Either way, it almost certainly won’t be his final appearance in Queens, with Rivera all but certain to make an appearance here at the All-Star Game in July.— Dan Martin
