Wilson Ramos’ disappointing season with the Mets will end his tenure with the club.

The Mets declined their $10 million option on the 33-year-old catcher for next season, sending him to free agency. Ramos slashed an underwhelming .239/.297/.387 with five homers and 15 RBIs last season, with his lack of mobility behind the plate also a significant issue.

The Mets ended the season with Ramos sharing playing time at catcher with Robinson Chirinos. Backup catcher Tomas Nido missed the final six weeks after testing positive for COVID-19. Chirinos and Todd Frazier also had their club options declined.

Ramos’ contract calls for him to receive a $1.5 million buyout. He arrived before the 2019 season on a two-year deal worth $19 million.

J.T. Realmuto is the top player available in free agency and could become a Mets target once Steve Cohen is officially confirmed as the team’s new owner. That vote among MLB owners is scheduled for Friday.
