TOKYO — An announcement will be made Monday night on which major league team has won the right to negotiate with top Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish, FOX Sports reported.

The teams reported to have submitted bids for the 25-year-old right-hander include the Yankees, Blue Jays, Rangers and Cubs. Many MLB executives believe the Blue Jays put forth the winning bid, though no confirmation has come from MLB or Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.

Darvish’s team, the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, has until 5:00pm local time Tuesday to accept a bid, giving one MLB team a 30-day window to work out a contract with Darvish. FOX reported the bid will be announced around 8:00 or 9:00pm ET Monday.

Darvish will return to the Fighters only if he is unable to agree on a contract with the top bidder.

Obtaining Darvish is expected to cost more than $125 million in total. He is reportedly seeking a five-year, $75 million deal, and the winning bid for his negotiating rights is expected to top the record $51.1 million paid by the Red Sox for Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006, according to SI.com.

Darvish went 18-6 with a career-best 1.44 ERA last season, striking out 276 batters and walking only 36 in 232 innings. He led the Pacific League in strikeouts in 2007, 2010 and 2011.
