Tom Glavine wouldn’t mind hoisting a World Series trophy for the Mets and calling it a career.

With 300 lifetime victories to his name and his place in Cooperstown all but reserved, Glavine is torn about whether to extend his career beyond this season. But there is one scenario that would almost guarantee the lefty’s goodbye to baseball.

“If we were to win the World Series it [would be] real hard for me to say, ‘Man, I want to play again next season,’ ” Glavine said yesterday. “Now you’re walking out on top of the world.

“But if we had a disappointing ending like we had last year, there’s a sense of unfinished business and a bad taste in your mouth that you want to have go away.”

Glavine, who tonight is scheduled to face the Marlins at Shea Stadium – his first start since winning No. 300 on Sunday at Wrigley Field – said his wife Chris has asked him at least three times in the last week whether he plans to pitch next season.

“I still don’t have an answer for her,” Glavine said. “I know my desire to play next year is just not going to disappear, from a competitive standpoint. But there comes a time when you have to evaluate how much more do you want to play and what more do you want to play for?”
